Zindi sports gala preps underway

KEY stakeholders will come on a round-table today (Friday) to finalise preparations ahead of the second edition of the Irene Zindi Sports Gala set for next Saturday.
The exciting football and netball gala, which was launched last year, is sponsored by Mutasa South legislator Irene Zindi.

At its inauguration, the tournament incorporated ward-based teams as well as vocational training schools in Mutasa South constituency, but a developmental decision has since led to exclusively secondary schools competing in the tournament.

Zindi confirmed that there will be a meeting to finalise preparations for the sporting fiesta.

“We will be meeting with headmasters in the constituency to finalise preparations for the tournament. When we launched the tournament we had ward-based teams as well as vocational training schools in Mutasa South constituency, but we have since decided to rope in secondary schools. I believe we all have a duty in sporting to nurture talent at grassroots level if our national teams are to succeed, hence the decision to bring in secondary schools.

“All high schools in Mutasa will take part in the tournament wherein netball and soccer teams will compete for the top prizes.

“We are looking forward to exciting competition in both netball and soccer,” she said. Magamba Training Centre won the soccer championship in last year’s edition of the competition, while Ward 14 was crowned the netball champions.
