Chivi Rural District Council chairman Councillor Killer Zivhu received overwhelming support from different stakeholders over the weekend when he revealed his desire to represent Chivi South in the National Assembly. Cllr Zivhu donated at least 4 000 bags of cement to almost all schools in Chivi district, churches and the elderly for building toilets.

There was a thunderous welcome from the people who attended the function at Shindi Primary School where Cllr Zivhu made public his intentions to stand for the parliamentary seat.

The meeting was attended by Zanu-PF supporters, chiefs, headmen and councillors from Chivi district, who rallied behind the announcement by Cllr Zivhu. What impressed most of them is the work that Cllr Zivhu has been doing in the district as a councillor and chairperson of Chivi Rural District Council.

He introduced the Chivi Village ZimAsset through which he rallied people in the district to embark on different community projects in the line with the Government economic blueprint. Under the programme, the people in Chivi repaired roads and bridges, rehabilitated clinics and schools and embarked on small scale irrigation projects.

Cllr Zivhu also sponsored the building of classroom blocks at different schools in the district, is sending many disadvantaged children to school, donated computers to various schools and police stations, built homes for the disadvantaged and led in various other developmental programmes.

Gutu district administrator Mr Mafios Hlavati, who worked with Cllr Zivhu on various developmental programmes during his stint as Chivi assistant district administrator, said he did not doubt Dr Zivhu’s pedigree when it comes to developing the district.

He was addressing the crowd while standing in for Minister of State for Masvingo Province Cde Josaya Hungwe. Sitting Member of Parliament for Chivi South Cde Mafios Utete said he appreciated the development brought by Cllr Zivhu’s to the constituency as a councillor.

“I do not have a problem with contests,” he said. “What is important is the development of Chivi, let the person who will win in this constituency prioritise the development of Chivi.”

Chief Nemauzhe and Headman Shindi, who also attended the event said they were excited about Cllr Zivhu’s moves to take his political career to the next level. Cllr Zivhu called on party members to embrace President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call on “less politicking, but more on economic development”. He called on Zanu-PF members in Chivi to vigorously campaign for President Mnangagwa to win the harmonised elections expected soon.

“Our new dispensation that was brought by President Mnangagwa’s ascendency have taught us that we must not only politic, but promote economic development,” said Cllr Zivhu. “This is the reason why I am donating 4 000 packets of cement to 50 schools in Chivi South.

“I have sourced the money to buy cement from well-wishers, sons and daughters of Chivi and the corporate world who appreciate our plight here. I am complimenting my President Mnangagwa who is making efforts to put Zimbabwe back on the world map. He is travelling around the world inviting the international community to help us in rebuilding the country and I harbour the same spirit.”

Cllr Zivhu, who is also president of the Zimbabwe Local Government Association and president of the Assocation of Rural District Councils, said he was touched by the plight of many schools in Chivi South whose infrastructure left a lot to be desired, hence the donation of cement.
