THE Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC) is engaging media houses in Bulawayo as part of a media tour aimed at strengthening collaboration with the media industry.

The ZMC team, led by Executive Secretary Mr Godwin Phiri, visited the Zimpapers Bulawayo branch on Wednesday morning, where discussions focused on the state of the national print media in the digital era and opportunities for collaboration.

The visit was conducted under the theme: “Understanding the state of the National Print Media in the Digital era. Exploring opportunities for collaboration.”
Mr Phiri was accompanied by Chief Director Mr Academy Chinhamora, Manager Research, Training and Development Ms Tariro Shoniwa, Training and Standards Development Officer Mr Talent Chimutambgi, Regional Officer Bulawayo Ms Khanyile Sithole and Bulawayo Regional Office intern Ms Lomqhele Nxumalo.

The delegation was welcomed by Chronicle and Sunday News Editor Hatred Zenenga, Intake Editor Limukani Ncube, Managing and Operations Editor Isaac Waniwa, Operations Manager Prosper Dube, Circulation/Business Development Manager Martin Sibanda and accountant Precious Matanga.

The Zimpapers engagement formed part of the commission’s wider Bulawayo Media Tour, which is focusing on the changing media landscape and the impact of digitisation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) across different sectors of the industry.

Following the engagement with Zimpapers, the commission’s programme includes visits to FairTalk Communications, Asakhe Online (CITE) and Community Podium.
The tour seeks to provide an opportunity for the commission and media organisations to discuss developments affecting the industry while identifying areas for collaboration.
