ZNA, communities to partner for development

THE Zimbabwe National Army has vowed to work in unison with local communities in improving infrastructural development by providing human resource expertise. Officially handing over the Dangamvura-Gimboki Footbridge last Friday, 3.1 Combat Group Commanding Officer, Colonel Craven Nkiwane, who was standing in for 3 Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier-General Lazarus Gutu, hailed the relationship the ZNA has with the local community, business and political leadership the country.

He said numerous community assistance projects undertaken by the ZNA was in line with the organisation’s extensive role of military assistance to civil communities or ministries where they are mandated to assist the local communities they live in.

“Besides this project, the brigade recently completed the construction of water reservoirs in Makoni South and Garawaziva and St Moses Chimhova clinics in Buhera North. The projects are now awaiting official handover to their beneficiaries.

“Current projects underway are the construction of two classroom blocks at Sheni Primary School in Dangamvura where my engineers are now working on electricity tubing and glazing. We will continue to work on other projects as requested by our local communities,” Col Nkiwane said.

Speaking on behalf of acting Zanu-PF provincial chairman Dr Samuel Undenge, provincial secretary for administration, Cde Kenneth Saruchera, said unity and collective effort between the ZNA and Government had always yielded positive results.

“The ZNA has always remained committed and dedicated to various Government projects. They are professional and hardworking and we are proud of them. Besides maintaining peace in the country, they are concerned about other issues affecting our lives such as our health, education system and infrastructural development,” Cde Saruchera said.

He added: “We should thank President Mugabe for showing faith and belief in us by appointing nine ministers and five Politburo members from Manicaland. That is a reward.

“We have a hardworking and loving leader in Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Cde Mandi Chimene. She is always there to listen to people’s concerns. Let’s appreciate her by working hard and contribute positively to the development of the country.”

Mutare Senator, Cde Judith Mawire, urged people to be disciplined and complement ZNA’s efforts to protect the country and play a pivotal role in developing communities.

“We should remain united and respect Zanu PF. God loves peace and will always protect us from detractors and enemies of progress who try to stall development. They (soldiers) sacrifice their lives and leave their families to take care of us. Let us appreciate their efforts and be responsible citizens. Complement each other’s efforts,” she said.
