Hlabano said the journey of rehabilitation is complex and requires a manifested approach.
“The theme we are embracing today emphasises the importance of utilising evidence-based practices to foster genuine change in the lives of individuals who have interacted with the judicial system.

“Our goal is not only to reduce recidivism, but to empower individuals, providing them with the tools they need to thrive as productive members of society,” said Comm Hlabano.
She said the ZPCS recognizes the vital role that community engagement plays in the rehabilitation process noting that families and community members are essential in providing support and encouragement to those who are incarcerated as their involvement can make a significant difference in their journey towards rehabilitation.
“Let me also take this opportunity to encourage all stakeholders, including local leaders, civic organisations, churches and community members to value collaboration with us in developing programs that support rehabilitation.
“Together, we can implement initiatives that provide education, vocational training and mental health support to those in our correctional facilities,” said Comm Hlabano.

She said there is also need to celebrate the success stories that emerge from rehabilitation efforts as well as the success stories that have been shared with the community.
Comm Hlabano noted that many individuals have changed their lives around and returned to their communities with positive influences, stories that inspire hope and demonstrate the effectiveness of collective responsibility in the rehabilitation process.
“I therefore want to thank each of you for your commitment to this cause. Your presence here today reflects your dedication to foster rehabilitation, and your commitment to this cause,” said Comm Hlabano.
