The Zimbabwe Republic Police has corrected some spelling errors that were noted on their new fleet of vehicles last week, attributing the mistakes to the contractor, who was tasked with painting and labelling the cars.
Some of the 82 police vehicles commissioned last week had some names of police stations wrongly spelt, attracting social media criticism.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said, “The ZRP appreciates and notes the concerns raised by members of the public on spelling errors by the contractor on vehicles. The ZRP Transport Section has since corrected the anomalies. We thank the public for the observation.”
Last week, President Mnangagwa commissioned 82 vehicles of different types to the Zimbabwe Republic Police as part of efforts by the Second Republic to capacitate law enforcement agencies in combating crime.
The vehicles that included 46 single cab Ford Rangers, 24 Kia Picanto, 9 Kia Rio, 2 Renault Kwid and one Renault Logan, were commissioned at Morris Depot in Harare.
Speaking at the handover of the vehicles, President Mnangagwa urged the police to deal decisively with criminals.
“Crime by its nature and diverse forms, retards the normal function of society, requiring intervention by law enforcement authorities, the broader security establishment, citizens and the business community, among others,” he said.
“Perpetrators of crimes and offenders must thus be firmly dealt with in order to curb crime, deviance and illicit behaviour. Criminals must never be given any breathing space to commit their illegal, immoral and even wicket acts.”
