THE Zimbabwe Republic Police has fired the opening shot for the 2025 third term school holiday and festive season with a full-scale national safety campaign aimed at keeping roads clean and criminals in check.
In a hitting statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi declared that they are rolling into all corners of the country to engage transporters at National, Provincial and District levels, making sure travellers move safely from cities, towns and rural areas.
Commissioner Nyathi said, “Police officers will therefore conduct engagement with transporters at National, Provincial and District levels for the smooth and safe movement of travellers from various cities, towns and other places.”
Authorities are tightening screws as the country slides into the holiday rush, warning parents, schools and drivers to put safety first. Commissioner Nyathi said, “School authorities and parents should prioritise the safety and security of pupils and avoid travelling at night or hiring vehicles which are not certified fit to carry children.”
He called on the public to stop brushing off bad behaviour on the roads, saying: “The Zimbabwe Republic Police urges Zimbabweans to cooperate with deployed officers and report errant drivers for the law to take its course.”
With cross-border trips, shopping sprees and long-distance travel expected to spike, officers will be deployed in numbers to choke off criminal activity, smash reckless driving and push for responsible behaviour on the highways.
Comm Nyathi promised constant communication throughout the holiday frenzy, saying, “The Zimbabwe Republic Police will continue to give regular updates on Police deployments for the festive season.”
He urged Zimbabweans to be the eyes and ears of the law as they hit the roads for Christmas and New Year. “Anyone spotting dodgy drivers or criminal acts can call (0242) 703 631 or WhatsApp 0712 800 197,” he said.
