A bilateral meeting in Harare aimed at strengthening cooperation in combating cross-border crimes between the Zimbabwe Republic Police and their South African counterparts, has concluded with several resolutions being made to fight against crimes, especially human trafficking.
The meeting was attended by Police Commissioner-General Stephen Mutamba, SAPS National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sehlahle Fannie Masemola, Deputy Commissioner-General Learn Ncube, and senior police officers from both countries.
In an interview, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi, confirmed the development.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police-South Africa Police Services (SAPS) bilateral meeting has concluded in Harare with several resolutions in the fight against crime being made,” he said.
The two countries’ delegations were led by their respective Police Chiefs, Commissioner-General of Police, Mutamba and General Masemola.
“The SAPS delegation also paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Kazembe Kazembe, at his Mukwati Building offices,” he said.
Over the past few years, Zimbabwean and South African security authorities have been rolling out a joint operation along the two countries’ borders to address smuggling, illegal migration, and other crimes. ZRP, SA agreed to fight cross-border crimes.
