ZVIMBA East Veterans Investment Company (Zevic) has won an interdict against its former members who have been tampering with their pegs and causing mayhem on their piece of land.

The company had told the court that some of their members, who included Israel Gada, Michael Changadzo, Sindiso Tshabalala, Knowledge Mazire and Joseph Singa, were re-pegging the land and removing existing pegs.

The chairperson of Zevic, Mr Joe Chimonyo, who was authorised by the board resolution to depose the affidavit, said sometime in 2024 Zevic applied for land to the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works for residential purposes on Penrose Farm of Zvimba District and the offers were granted on 10 April 2025 for 20 hectares and another one on May 16, 2025 for 25 hectares.

Mr Chimonyo told the court that Zevic had already surveyed the land and produced a draft layout plan and carried out some engineering works, including pegging of stands, road opening and water installation.

The court heard that following the production of the draft layout plan, Zevic had pegged the land into residential stands totalling about 2000 stands.

They submitted that the respondents, on learning about the offer letters and after getting hold of the copies of the same, are now moving around claiming ownership of the said land.

“It has also come to light that the respondents, together with or through their cronies, are tampering with the applicant’s pegs and disturbing the peace of the applicant’s land beneficiaries. They are actually re-pegging the land and removing the applicant’s pegs,” he said.

“Respondents are busy opening ‘new’ roads on top of the applicant’s roads and stands and subsequently selling the land to those unsuspecting beneficiaries.

“Respondents’ actions are aimed at confusing the bona fide beneficiaries of the said land on the applicant’s list, disturbing progress by the applicant, fleecing people of their hard-earned cash, prejudicing the applicant economically and socially as well as disturbing the peace of the applicant and its members.”

They submitted that they believe that there is no other suitable remedy for the matter other than stopping the respondents from interfering with the applicant, its land, its works and its beneficiaries.

The court granted the application before ordering the respondents to stop removing the applicant’s pegs and re-pegging Penrose Farm, carrying out any civil engineering works at the farm, trespassing into the applicant’s land and purporting to sell the stands that are in the applicant’s.

Some of the respondents were recently arrested for fraud, convicted and ordered to pay back US$13 000, which was unlawfully withdrawn from the Zevic bank accounts.
