THE Zvishavane Town Council has applied to government for access to $550,000 earmarked for infrastructural development in the mining town.
The loan application follows calls by the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing advising local authorities across the country of a loan facility of $98 million to finance construction equipment and machinery for infrastructural development.
Zvishavane Town Council secretary, Tinoda Mukutu, confirmed the development saying the capital equipment accessed through the loan facility would go a long way in the upgrading and maintenance of the town’s road network and general infrastructure.
“We’re happy to have taken advantage of a loan facility from government after the Ministry of Local Government advised us of the loan facility earmarked for the supply of construction equipment and machinery for infrastructural development in line with Zim-Asset.
“The loan facility is payable over two years and we hope the capital equipment will play a pivotal role in the upgrading and maintenance of our road network, dumpsite and general infrastructure,” Mukutu said.
Equipment to be accessed through the facility includes a Bulldozer, Pneumatic Roller, a 10-tonne truck, concrete mixture and a water bowser.
Mukutu said access to the capital equipment would accelerate the mining town’s bid to get municipal status by 2018.
The local authority recently introduced its Client Service Charter since attaining town status in 1999.
Zvishavane has in recent years experienced rapid growth in terms of infrastructural development where about 8,000 housing units have been unveiled while council has unveiled about 150 commercial stands for the extension of the CBD.
