Eleven MDC-T supporters from Chitungwiza have been remanded in custody on allegations of engaging in factional violence at a memorial service on Saturday.
Costa Andreya and 10 others were not formally charged when they appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo yesterday.
They return to court today for ruling on their bail applications.

Prosecutor Mr Tendai Mukariri opposed bail on the grounds that the crime was politically-motivated and the recent expulsion of the party’s deputy treasurer-general Mr Elton Mangoma could see “the likely (committing) of similar offences”.

The court heard that the MDC-T supporters should have sought police clearance for the memorial service because they were gathering as party cadres.

It is alleged that they turned the memorial service into a political rally and were chanting slogans.

Further, the court was told, they started exchanging harsh words concerning the recent expulsion of Mr Mangoma from MDC-T.
