111 people die of malaria

Government’s weekly epidemiological report, the provinces mostly affected are Manicaland and Mashonaland Central.
It further says, of the reported cases, 3 415 and five deaths were of children below the age of five years.

“The deaths were reported from Harare Central Hospital (1), Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals (1), Mutoko (2), Makonde (2), Mwenezi (1), Chiredzi (1), Buhera (2), Chimanimani (3), Mutare (6), Chirumhanzu (1) and Bindura,” reads part of the report.

Health and Child Welfare Minister Dr Henry Madzorera said malaria remained one of the Government’s top headaches even though remarkable progress has been made in previous years to bring cases down.

Malaria is preventable and curable but can cause deaths of patients who delay seeking medical attention.
People are urged to sleep under mosquito net cover and to use repellants.
