LONDON. — Gabriel Jesus hugged Edu as he arrived at Arsenal to undergo his medical before completing a £45million transfer from Manchester City.
The Gunners are set to announce the completed transfer of the Brazilian forward imminently with SunSport revealing exclusive pictures of him hugging Edu ahead of his medical yesterday.
Arsenal mean business this summer as they have reportedly submitted a second bid for transfer target Lisandro Martinez. They have raised their reported offer of £25 million to £34.5m but it has been claimed that Ajax are hoping for around the £43m mark.
And the North London club are continuing to work on a deal which lures Leeds United ace Raphinha to the Emirates this transfer window.
Jesus has agreed personal terms to join Mikel Arteta’s side, with the move set to go through imminently. The Brazilian, 25, decided to quit City for regular first team football at the Emirates.
He will pen a five-year contract with the Gunners, with his medical the final formality.
Jesus beamed ear to ear as he embraced his compatriot Edu upon arrival.
He becomes Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer, following Marquinhos, Fabio Vieira and Matt Turner.
He will replace Alexandre Lacazette as the Gunners’ most senior striker.
Jesus scored 95 goals in 236 appearances for Man City after arriving at the club for £27m in January 2017. He will compete for a starting berth alongside academy striker Eddie Nketiah.
The England youth international penned a £100-a-week contract earlier this month.
He was also awarded the prestigious No14 shirt, previously worn by the likes of Thierry Henry.
After sewing up a deal for Jesus, Arsenal are set to press on with other targets.
The Gunners are chasing a deal for Leeds ace Raphinha, but will have to beat off competition from Barcelona and Newcastle.
Leeds are after £65m for their star man, although the Brazilian’s representatives reportedly reckon this fee could be whittled down to £50m.
Arsenal are also interested in Ajax defender Martinez, as well as Leicester ace Youri Tielemans. — The Sun.
