#1980sofarsogood for local Television

Hope you had a lovely weekend with this unpredictable and unreliable weather.
Drinking coffee or juice in the comfort of your couch or sofa and enjoying the television is the way to go.Last week, I received a lot of feedback from most women who said they have fallen in love with Telemundo courtesy of DStv.

Well with a good number of marriages and relationships in Zimbabwe currently reeling under the challenge of infidelity, it has become imperative for couples to seek help from their counsellors.

The film mode has not been left out in dispensing vital advice that can keep the walls cemented together. I must say, soapies play an important part in our daily lifestyle.

This is exactly what some of the Bollywood movies that are being screened as part of DStv-Zee World programming are doing.

The medium of film is a vehicle not only of keeping us glued to our screens entertainment-wise, but also doubles up as a therapy to the ills that we face.

“Married Again?” is keeping audiences captivated through its lead character Neil who in one episode, asked for the hand of Shubra in marriage, a development which saw another rival suitor, Rewa thinking that that spelt the end of his world.

The plot has been heightening and twists and turns have been in store for viewers, especially with the Zimbabwean audience who are so much enthralled by issues evolving around scandals, shenanigans and troubled marriages.

Characters like Palak, Yash, Aarti and Gayatri have been keeping viewers guessing on what comes next.

Financial issues, carnal matters involving infidelity as well as mistrust all make the stories interesting.

By bringing these movies to the African audience, DStv are showing that in as much as we might be poles part geographically and even culturally, we still share a lot in common, and our shortcomings, weaknesses, strengths, aspirations and dreams are the same.

These Indian productions also point out to us that we live our lives only once and the action that we take now determines our tomorrow.

This is the same message that back home here in Zimbabwe our local broadcaster ZTV has always been pushing for through their dramas and soaps which explore family issues.

The broadcaster has been very instrumental in denouncing a lot of domestic vices which have seen many homes been destroyed.

With Independence coming in four days, we hope the TV production crew has got some special Independence screenings that are not the usual down memory lane and all that, can we have some new angles and exciting shows to highlight that moment the country officially took its freedom 35 years ago please.

Just like the theme says, #1980sofarsogood.

Till next week, Happy Independence Day.
