AT least 200 women drawn from Hurungwe district were recently trained in various life-changing and income-generating skills.
The two-day workshop, which was bankrolled by Hurungwe’s women proportional representative in Parliament, Cde Goodluck Kwaramba, saw participants receive knowledge from Women Affairs, Small and Medium Enterprise and Community Development Ministry officials.
Beneficiaries said the initiative would see women becoming self-supportive while supporting the country’s economic development agenda. Ms Shylet Ganyaupfu said, “We have learnt how to make soap and petroleum jelly and this is going to support our ways of fending for our families.”
Other women said the initiative dovetailed with the Government’s drive of empowering women and the youths.
Cde Kwaramba said the 200 beneficiaries were drawn from Hurungwe central constituency, which houses Karoi town.
“The aim was to equip women with skills so that they are empowered in line with the President’s Vision 2030 of an upper middle income economy and not to leave anyone and no space behind,” she said.
“When women are empowered, gender-based violence will be minimised and families will live together happily.”
The programme is expected to cascade to other districts.
