By Prosper Ndlovu and Mkhululi Sibanda
THE United States has added on its sanctions list, two Zimbabwean diamond mining companies, Mbada Diamonds and Marange Resources.
The move, seen as a deliberate ploy to frustrate the country’s efforts to improve its economy through diamond sales, comes shortly after the Kimberly Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) gave Zimbabwe the green light to unconditionally export its gemstones from Marange fields.
It also comes as four companies mining diamonds in Chiadzwa in Marange have relocated thousands of villagers from more than 700 families following the construction of modern homesteads.
The villagers were moved from the concessions in Chiadzwa by Marange Resources, Mbada Diamonds, Diamond Mining Corporation and Anjin.
