Zanu-PF warns seniors against abusing powers

THE Zanu-PF national leadership yesterday warned Politburo and Central Committee members against abusing their powers and trying to directly run the provinces where they come from.
In a statement yesterday, the party’s secretary for administration Cde Didymus Mutasa said the practice was synonymous to usurping the powers of the provincial chairpersons and was in violation of Article 12, Sections 83 (i), 87 and 97 (i) of the party’s constitution.

Police warn criminals

POLICE in Matabeleland region have declared zero tolerance to crime during the Christmas and New Year’s Day holidays, with the launch of awareness campaigns and “spot on” operations against criminals.
Speaking in separate telephone interviews, spokespersons from Matabeleland South and North provinces, Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe and Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese said they have  launched operation Salibonani Njiva, which targets criminal activities by Zimbabweans based in South Africa, popularly known as injiva who would be returning home.
The annual operation is running concurrently with an awareness campaign which was launched on Thursday.

Ward beats Froch, lifts Super Six trophy

Carl Froch had no answer to Andre Ward’s class and pedigree as the unbeaten American lifted the Super Six tournament trophy and unified two world titles with an impressive unanimous decision win.
Ward, a 2004 Olympic gold medalist, produced a performance of technical brilliance to see off dangerous Briton Froch in Atlantic City with a relatively comfortable points win.
Defeat for Froch will hurt the Nottingham man’s pride but he will take heart from the fact his participation in the final, and his reputation as one of the sport’s genuine warriors, will allow him opportunities to bounce back.

Komphela cries foul

Free State Stars coach, Steve Komphela, says three factors contributed to his team losing 2-1 to Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday, including “the honourable Daniel Bennett”.
Komphela is aggrieved because Chiefs goalkeeper, Arthur Bartman, got away with just a yellow card after blatantly handling the ball outside the box in the 31st minute.  “I strongly believe that there were three factors that affected our game; the honourable Daniel Bennett, Sthembiso Ngcobo and the unfortunate shot that bounced from Lincoln Zvasiya. Had it not been for those three, we could be talking a different game,” Komphela says.

Highlanders hunt for juniors’ coach

HIGHLANDERS Football Club have begun the hunt for a juniors team coach who will replace Dumaza Dube amid revelations that veteran mentor Cosmos “Tsano” Zulu could land the director of coaching position.
The Themba Ndlela-led Highlanders executive created a position for the director of coaching post where the incumbent will oversee the entire technical issues of the club.
