Man axes girlfriend, hangs self
By Temba Dube
A married Bulawayo man reportedly fatally axed and stabbed his girlfriend after allegedly finding her with another man, before hanging himself at a neighbour’s house on Christmas Eve.
The incident happened at about 8pm at Number A5596 in Old Pumula.
The axe that he used in the grisly murder was reportedly left stuck on the woman’s head and had to be removed at the United Bulawayo Hospitals.
The man, identified by neighbours as Mthi Mhlanga, whom neighbours said was about 32 years, was employed by the Bulawayo City Council.
He reportedly ran amok when he found Ms Sukoluhle Ndlovu (40), who is his neighbour and also a shebeen queen, entertaining another man from the same suburb, at her home.
“Mhlanga was supposed to have gone to his rural home in Nkayi on the fateful day. I think Suku took advantage of that to bring in the other man. Unfortunately, Mhlanga did not go. He first chased after the man he found at the house and then came back to assault Suku. He had failed to catch him,” said a neighbour.
Another neighbour said Ndlovu screamed for help and people gathered and banged on the door which was locked.
