President sets agenda
Bulawayo Bureau
PRESIDENT Mugabe yesterday said the indigenisation and economic empowerment programme would take centre stage at the Zanu-PF 12th Annual National People’s Conference, which starts in Bulawayo today.
Speaking during his photographic exhibition at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) last night, the Head of State and Government and Commander-In-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces said the time has come for ordinary Zimbabweans to have a say in the national economy.
He said the liberation struggle was fought in order to repossess the land from the white minority and empower black people economically.
“Our sovereignty would not exist unless we own the land. We must be masters of our destiny and manage the natural resources below and above the earth’s surface. We must train ourselves hand skills and pride ourselves in being able to manage our affairs.

CHIEF Negomo, Mr Luscious Chitsinde, yesterday summoned Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai to appear before his traditional court in Chiweshe on Saturday for paying lobola during the sacred month of November.
PM Tsvangirai has confirmed that he married Ms Locadia Karimatsenga Tembo last month.
The Karimatsenga family is from Chiweshe.
Chief Negomo last week summoned the family to his court and found it guilty of violating the customary rule which stipulates that no traditional rituals should be performed in November.
The chief delivered the summons at the PM’s Charter House offices in Harare in the company of his aides, Mr Watson Baziwell and Mr Cairo Mhandu.

Schools auction fees defaulters’ property
Zvamaida Murwira Senior Reporter
SCHOOLS in Karoi have started auctioning property belonging to fees defaulters. This follows a High Court ruling which empowered schools to sue parents who default paying fees instead of turning away pupils.
The move is expected to have ripple effects as other schools are likely to follow suit.
It is also expected to trigger debate in the education sector as many schools have long used expulsion or exclusion of pupils as a way of enforcing payment.
In the past, schools turned away pupils who failed to pay fees and levies, but with the High Court judgment, a new strategy will have to be used in dealing with defaulters.
According to a statement published in the media yesterday, the Deputy Sheriff is expected to auction property belonging to parents from three schools together with other defaulters.
