CIVIL servants unions met in Harare yesterday and resolved to storm Public Service Minister Lucia Matibenga’s office next week demanding an audience with her over their salaries and conditions of service. Speaking after an Apex Council meeting, representatives of the unions said they would besiege Minister Matibenga without an invitation.
They said they would immediately declare a nationwide strike if they failed to meet Minister Matibenga.
Minister Matibenga could not be reached for comment, but her deputy Andrew Langa said Government was not ready with its position.
“Government will respond,” he said. “It’s a question of time and patience. We will communicate officially once we are ready with our position. For the meantime they should know that Government is committed to improving their working conditions.”
PM holidays with new wife Locadia

PRIME Minister Morgan Tsvangirai spent part of the festive holidays in South Africa with his new wife Ms Locadia Karimatsenga Tembo, contrary to his claims that he terminated the relationship. Sources said the two caught up in Durban after New Year’s Day and met the PM’s children.
Ms Karimatsenga, who was still at PM Tsvangirai’s rural home, followed her husband to South Africa on New Year’s Day by road. The PM had left three days earlier on a South African Airways flight.
Last year, PM Tsvangirai issued a statement claiming that he had terminated his relationship with Ms Karimatsenga, alleging interference in his private life by the media and State security.
Ms Karimatsenga has been in Buhera at the PM’s rural home since November.
