$40m fund hijacked: CZI
By Prosper Ndlovu in Bulawayo and Freedom Mupanedemo in Gweru
THE Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) yesterday said all the 60 Bulawayo companies it recommended to the Distressed Industries and Marginalised Areas Fund (Dimaf) have lost hope of benefiting from the facility amid reports that the Government has mobilised $30 million for the second phase of the facility.
The second phase would bail out ailing companies in the Midlands Province.
CZI president for the southern region Dr Ruth Labode said the $40 million had been hijacked and accused the Ministry of Industry and Commerce of failing to manage it.
“We recommended about 60 distressed companies to apply for this fund. But I am reliably informed that big companies that are under judicial management such as G and D, National Blankets, Merspin and Textile Mills will not benefit from this facility,” said Dr Labode.
