Villagers lose livestock to stray lions

A pride of six lions is on the loose in Hwange district and has killed seven head of  cattle and three donkeys belonging to Chief  Shana.

In an interview on Monday, Chief Shana said the problem of lions started in December last year and that the livestock was killed in the last few weeks.

The chief said initially there were seven lions  but one has since been put down by rangers  from the Parks and Wildlife Management Authority.

“Game rangers do come but they stay far away from where the animals cause  havoc.
“After shooting and killing one of the   lions, they went away but the remaining ones are terrorising communities and killing their livestock,” said Chief Shana, who is also a Senator.
