600 cars seized in police blitz

POLICE have impounded 600 unregistered and unroadworthy vehicles countrywide in the last two weeks to curb criminal activities and bring sanity on the roads.
Most of the unregistered vehicles were believed to be used in committing crimes while others were involved in accidents and the drivers sped off.
The vehicles, which are parked at police stations in Harare, will only be released after the owners obtain the required documents.
The owners must bring registration number plates, while others will pay fines before getting their vehicles back.
Officer-in-charge Press and public relations Inspector Blessmore Chishaka said most of the vehicles were impounded at roadblocks and during motorised patrols.
“All unregistered vehicles should have proper documents to be on the roads.
“For any vehicle to be on the road, it should be registered,” said Insp Chishaka.
“We realised that some of these unregistered vehicles were behind a spate of criminal activities, while others were involved in accidents and we have been failing to account for them since they were not registered,” he said.
Some motorists abuse the 14-day period they are given to register imported vehicles by putting them on the road without registration numbers.
President’s health rumours immoral: PM

PRIME Minister Morgan Tsvangirai yesterday castigated individuals peddling false reports on President Mugabe’s health.
He said it was not morally right to wish the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces dead.
Addressing a gathering at Maglas Stadium during commemorations to mark the World Health Day, PM Tsvangirai said there was “a difference between aging and sickness”.
“Ngatiregeyi kuti kana munhu aenda kundorapiwa toti avakufa. Let us respect our elders. Rudo rwevanhu vakuru haruperi,” he said.
“Kukura hakusi kurwara. Nezuro chaiye pandakaona President kuCabinet ndakati ‘aah, murikufa muchimuka here imi?’ Ndikati ‘inga mapepa aiti makafa wani?’ Zvikanzi zvinoita mapepa hauzvizivi here? (We must desist from claiming that when a person seeks treatment, he is dying.
Aging is not sickness. Yesterday I told the President in Cabinet that ‘you are dying and resurrecting’ and he said ‘don’t you know how the media behaves?’)
The local private media and international news channels spread rumours that President Mugabe had been flown to Singapore after falling sick and was battling for life in a hospital in the Asian country. Talk freely about political challenges, says Mujuru
Herald Reporter
CABINET has agreed that people should be allowed to talk freely about challenges they face because of political differences so that they can forgive each other, Vice President Joice Mujuru has said.
She said this while officially launching the Group of 20 in Harare yesterday under the theme, “Mapping our future as Zimbabwean Women”.
The group comprises women parliamentarians, those in Copac, civil society and the academia.
It was established to monitor the constitution-making process and ensure women’s issues were captured.
Goromonzi MP Cde Biata Nyamupinga chairs the group.
“We were talking about national healing in Cabinet yesterday (Thursday) where we agreed that people should forgive each other but of course, they should be allowed to talk about it openly,” said VP Mujuru.
“Forgiveness should come from the heart because one can say they want to be compensated with a beast for them to forgive but what if a hyena is to come the following day and devour it. Forgiveness should come from deep down our hearts.”
VP Mujuru urged women to unite in fighting patriarchy to achieve their goals.
She hailed the Parliamentary Women’s Caucus for spearheading unity among women in their quest to achieve gender equity.
You can’t give what you don’t have
One of the lessons that I learnt from an early age is to think of others before myself. The lessons from home were reinforced at school through such organisations as the Brownies and the Girl Guides. I think this is the kind of lessons that women are socialised into from a very early age. I say this because those of us who were fortunate to grow up with their
