Taking advantage of the sharp increase in the demand for firewood that has been triggered by the cold weather and massive load shedding, many residents are turning to wood poaching.

A wood poacher who was brave enough to open up on her illegal activities, said that it was her only source of income, noting that recurrent and longer periods of power cuts forced them to poach wood.

SOME of the 178 Mimosa Mining Company workers who cheated death when they were trapped underground after a section of the mineshaft accidentally caught fire on Monday evening yesterday said they need to undergo psychological counselling for the “traumatic” experience they had before they could report for duty.

The development comes amid revelations that the platinum mining company would lose 75 000 tonnes of platinum ore worth thousands of dollars due to work stoppage.
