Mutasa visits provinces over DCCs’ dissolution

THE Zanu-PF Secretary for Administration, Cde Didymus Mutasa, and his delegation have started visiting provinces to explain the dissolution of District Coordinating Committees (DCCs).

President Mugabe, who is the party’s First Secretary, announced the Politburo decision to disband the DCCs at a Central Committee meeting in Harare recently.

The Central Committee has since endorsed the decision to do away with the DCCs.

Yesterday the delegation visited the Mid-lands where they addressed the Provincial Co-ordinating Committee members.

In his address Cde Mutasa said the dissolution of the District Coordinating Committees would help strengthen the party by allowing direct communication between the executive and the grassroots.

He said the decision to dissolve DCCs was made by the Central Committee after noting that some individuals were abusing the structure to serve their selfish interests.

“The message from the Central Committee is clear, the DCCs have been dissolved. This means there will be more work for the party executives. The Central Committee took the decision to dissolve the DCCs after noting that certain individuals were abusing the structure to advance their own selfish decisions,” said Cde Mutasa.

Mass weddings banned: Mudede

MARRIAGES that were solemnised by at least 716 marriage officers that have gone underground face cancellation while mass weddings have been banned, the Registrar-General Mr Tobaiwa Mudede said yesterday.

The RG said the marriage officers had gone underground after his office introduced a new register to flush out bogus officers.

He said those who had failed to turn up could be fake and the marriages they solemnised in the past would be cancelled.

Addressing journalists in Harare yesterday, Mr Mudede said his office had also banned mass weddings and that marriage officers would be banned from upgrading marriages.

Mr Mudede said since the introduction of the new marriage register in March this year, his office had not received any reports of marriages of convenience.

“A total of 1 253 marriage registers have been issued to marriage officers so far, yet we had 1 966 marriage officers in our marriage register,” he said.
