Tuku must sing at my funeral: Auntie Dot

Renowned musician Dorothy Masuka says her wish is to have Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi sing at her funeral.
In an interview with The Herald yesterday, the 77-year-old award winning Afro-jazz musician said she always liked Tuku’s music and that it was an honour to perform at his 60th birthday gig.
“I have known Tuku since 1988 when we toured Europe and the United States together. I am honoured to have been invited to this historic event because such an event will never repeat itself.
“There are several musicians who started well but as time went on they got messed up and lost everything they had worked for. But that is not what
you find in Tuku. Since I have known him I have always loved his music. It is my wish to have him sing at my funeral should I die first,” she said.
The “Pata Pata” hitmaker described Tuku as a true music ambassador for Zimbabwe.
“Everyday I pray to the Lord to give him (Tuku) more years because his music is uniquely Zimbabwean and it transcends borders,” she said.
Auntie Dot as Masuka is popularly known in music said she enjoyed a brotherly-sisterly relationship with Tuku.
Besides Auntie Dot, Steve Dyer who was also invited for the birthday bash said he first met Tuku in 1998 while he was recording his album at Record and Tape Promotions.
“We shared the same record company RTP and so one day while I was waiting to record my album I listened to Tuku and I thought he was a cool guy.
“And between 1988 and 1999 while I was living in Zimbabwe, we became the best of friends with Tuku and at one point we toured the United States of America with my group Southern Freeway and the Black Spirits.
“We then decided to form a regional group Mahube with the idea of bringing different talents together from Southern Africa after which we released the album Music
