Residents cry foul over water-shedding
Temba Dube
BULAWAYO residents have accused the city council of exposing them to diseases by unnecessarily increasing the water-shedding period to four days every week.
A snap survey by Chronicle yesterday revealed that while residents were aware that there was a water shortage in the city, a majority of them do not think it is a necessity to embark on water-shedding.
A number of them blamed the council for failing to plan ahead to avert the water crisis.
Some accused the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) of sleeping on duty by not taking the opportunity to remove silt from Upper Ncema and Umzingwane dams which have been decommissioned.
“This water-shedding nonsense is useless because we keep a lot of water that we throw away to get fresh water every time supplies are restored. I think we are actually using more water than we would ordinarily use when there is no water-shedding,” said Mr Innocent Ndlovu (40) of Gwabalanda.
