Zinwa fails to connect Mtshabezi generators

THE Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) engineers have in the past three weeks reportedly been failing to connect generators that are supposed to start up pumps and bring Mtshabezi Dam water to Bulawayo.

The city’s water crisis is worsening with another supply dam, Upper Ncema, likely to be decommissioned this month.

Bulawayo is banking on Mtshabezi Dam, which is expected to supply about 17 000 cubic metres of water a day to Bulawayo and reduce water shedding period by 24 hours.

At the moment, the city is under a four-day water shedding schedule for all suburbs as it battles to conserve the little water left until the next rains.

An official at the Bulawayo City Council last Friday confirmed that the city was yet to access water from Mtshabezi Dam.

Zesa declares black festive season

ZIMBABWEANS are set to endure a black festive season after Zesa announced that it would from today, embark on massive load shedding until the beginning of next year.

This is likely to dampen the spirits of many going into the festive period.

In an emergency Power Supply Update at the weekend, Zesa spokesperson Mr Fullard Gwasira said an extensive maintenance programme, which is set to take place at Hwange and Kariba Power Stations, would necessitate the power shedding.

“Zesa Holdings would like to advise all its valued customers countrywide that there will be an increase in load shedding outside the publicised schedules from Monday 26 November due to a maintenance exercise at Unit 2 of Kariba Power Station. The maintenance exercise will be completed within a period of 18 days.”
