Victoria Falls heritage status unchanged

THE World Heritage Status of the Victoria Falls Rainforest has not changed as the world wonder is still recognised by Unesco as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, Tourism and Hospitality Minister, Engineer Walter Mzembi has said.

Eng Mzembi said only God could delist the Victoria Falls Rainforest from being one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

Commenting on reports which alleged that the Victoria Falls Rainforest had been delisted from being one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World making way for the so called New7Wonders of the World which include the Table Mountain of South Africa, Eng Mzembi said the Rainforest, which is the largest curtain of flowing water in the world, would remain a natural wonder until the end of time.

Conspiracy ruled out in Byo companies closure

Prosper Ndlovu

ZANU-PF Politburo member and national secretary for production and labour Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire says there is no conspiracy behind the closure of Bulawayo companies and their relocation to Harare.

In an interview with Chronicle in Lupane on Thursday, Cde Mavhaire said the demise of Bulawayo’s economy should be viewed in the context of economic viability, which should not be mixed with politics.

The city has in the past few years witnessed the closure of close to 100 companies with some relocating to Harare, leaving thousands jobless.

Cde Mavhaire, however, admitted that while Bulawayo remains the country’s favourable industrial centre given its inherent economic advantages, things were not all rosy in the firms.

“Yes the issue of the closure of Bulawayo companies is at stake. You need to understand that industries were not established in Bulawayo by accident. It was out of realisation that the city has a good market and is closely linked to South Africa for transportation of raw materials and trade.
