THE National Federation of Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness and the Matabeleland Bodybuilding and Weightlifting Association yesterday unveiled their 2015 calendar of events.

Simon Gama of the Matabeleland body said that they have lined up 12 events this year. The activities will be both at national and provincial level.

“This year is going to be full of action with more than 12 events lined up,” said Gama.

He said in a move to try and promote bodybuilding and weightlifting in the province, they will deploy a team of qualified experts to go around gyms training gym instructors on the proper methods to guide bodybuilders.

“We’ll be going around the city’s gyms educating instructors. The association will select a qualified team that will be going around the gyms conducting the lessons,” he said.

Gama said there was a serious shortage of qualified bodybuilding and weightlifting instructors in the country.

The four-time Mr Bulawayo said Bulawayo might get a chance to play host to the Mr Ironman Zimbabwe for the first time.

“Bulawayo has been set as the official host of Mr Ironman which is one of the country’s most prestigious bodybuilding competitions on May 28 if we manage to get a sponsor for the event. In the event we fail, Kadoma will host the event,” he said.

Some of the events lined up for this year are Mr Novis on March 28, Mr Ironman Zimbabwe and Mr and Miss Zimbabwe.

Three bodybuilders from the region last year managed to win awards at the national Mr Muscleman contest.
