The country recorded 27 new suspected cholera cases on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health and Child Care has said.
These were recorded in Chirumhanzu (1), Bindura (8), Mutasa (3), Mutare City (2), Mutare Rural (8) and Chimanimani (5).
Manicaland province recorded the most with 18, bringing its tally to 553, with six deaths.
As of Wednesday, there were 71 hospitalized suspected cholera cases countrywide, with the majority being in Manicaland province.
Zimbabwe now has a cumulative total of 1 431 suspected cholera cases, nine laboratory confirmed deaths, 28 suspected cholera deaths and 1 324 recoveries.
“To date cases have been reported in 9 provinces of the country since the beginning of 2023, with cases in the 9 provinces having no epidemiological link to each other,” the Ministry said.
The first case of cholera was recorded in February in Chegutu, and since then more outbreaks have been reported in other regions of the country. – New Ziana
