THREE suspects were arrested, while their counterparts are still at large, for allegedly stealing 53 bags of wheat meant for drought relief in Chipinge.
Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the incident occurred on March 17, 2025.
He identified the suspects as Sekai Chindezwa (41), Mollen Muyambo (42), Viola Makuyana (18) – all from Madhuku village, under Chief Musikavanhu.
The stolen wheat was part of a drought relief programme, and 540 bags had already been distributed to villagers in Madhuku village.
The remaining 60 bags that were in the truck were intended for distribution at Mabhiza Business Centre.
“The three accused, along with three other male counterparts still at large, jumped into the lorry carrying the remaining wheat, demanding their share. They offloaded 53 bags of wheat from the truck. The driver drove off to ZRP Chisumbanje with the three still in the loading box while the male counterparts jumped off. The three were immediately arrested at the police station,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
The stolen wheat consignment is valued at US$1 170, and nothing was recovered.
