Villager in trouble for cultivating dagga

A 40-YEAR-OLD man is in hot soup with the police after he was recently arrested for cultivating dagga plants at his home in Odzi.

Sylvester Dembo, is set to appear in court for cultivating and being found in possession of dangerous drugs, namely cannabis sativa (dagga), as Defined in Section 157 (1) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act (Chapter 9:23).

Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident which happened in Mwainje Village in Odzi.

“The police received a tip off from an unknown caller to the effect that the accused person cultivated dagga at his backyard garden. The police proceeded to the accused’s homestead and found him at home. They interrogated the accused person and made a search round the accused person’s maize field and in his garden.

Five plants of dagga were recovered leading to his arrest. The police officers escorted him to Odzi Post Office where they measured the length of the dagga plants, which were between 1,33 metres and 2,33m,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
