A FEMALE shootist, Private Nyasha Mutambara (24), did Manicaland province proud after scooping the Presidential Medal Annual Shoot held at Cleveland Range in Harare recently.

Private Mutambara who is venturing into the male dominated field of snipers was immediately promoted from the rank of Private to full Corporal by the Commander 3 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier-General Lazarus Gutu as appreciation for her exceptional exploits.

“It should be natural that we reward good work among our troops, hence today Private Mutambara has been automatically elevated to become a full Corporal.

We are proud to be the home to one of the finest female shootist in the country as she outshone contestants from other sister organisations as well as other members from the civilian sector,” said Brig-Gen Gutu. Mutambara shrugged off stiff competition from other contestants among them members of the Air Force of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, Zimbabwe Republic Police, war veterans and ex-detainees among others. She walked away with a floating trophy and $320.

Mutambara also performed well in the inaugural Commissioner General of Police Shoot that was held in September this year. Meanwhile, another shootist, John Dzingai Chindito came second in the same competition, but in different categories, scooping $280 and a silver medal. It is the 6th time that Chindito has won in the same competition.
