Leading beverage manufacturer Coca-Cola is sponsoring the four minutes mile run contest.
Mutare-Haarlem’s Lyno “Bola” Muchena is one of Mutare athletes known to have qualified for the national competitions in the history of the four minutes a mile run contest.
Before its re-branding, in yesteryear competitions the same event was simply referred to as four rounds. MAB chairman Joshua Matume confirmed that this year’s track and field provincial championships will be held at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday.
Matume also confirmed that Coca-Cola are sponsoring the four minutes mile run.
“We will have this year’s edition of the annual Manicaland Track and Field championships at Sakubva Stadium on Sunday.
“This is an important event on our calendar that is expected to give us the insight into our preparedness for the National Youth Games that will be hosted by Manicaland.
“In Sunday’s event, we are targeting schools, clubs and tertiary institutions. It will also be good for secondary schools to partake in this event as they prepare themselves for the NASH inter-district competitions.
“For the tertiary institutions, it will also come in handy in their preparations for other competitions coming up in March and April,” said Matume.
According to Matume, the event will see participants competing in all field events except high jump, owing to lack of proper equipment for that particular sport.
Participants will compete in all track events.
