A 60-year-old suspected con woman appeared in court for fraud, involving US$1 000, with the complainant being further prejudiced of over US$9 000.
Adonis Juleka (60) of Belvedere was granted $40 000 bail when she appeared before Harare magistrate Yeukai Dzuda.
She will be back in court on October 4 for trial.
Allegations are that sometime in May, Juleka misrepresented facts to the complainant that she was an Australian Embassy travel agent.
She assured the complainant that she could help in processing a visa.
The complainant reportedly gave Juleka US$1 000 cash for processing of an Australian visa for him and his wife.
In June, Juleka allegedly sent a fake visa confirmation card, via e-mail.
After receiving that e-mail, the complainant acquired flight tickets, booked and paid for accommodation, and did Covid-19 tests, among other expenses, in preparation for their journey to Australia.
The complainant and his wife only realised that the visa was fake at the Emirates Airline check-in desk at the RGM International Airport.
The Australian Immigration Department also confirmed that the visa was fake.
The total amount the complainant lost is US$10 188 and nothing was recovered
