A 65-YEAR-OLD man from Shurugwi appeared in court for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl after giving her a plate of sadza.
The accused person from Dasi Village under Chief Nhema, Shurugwi who cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor appeared before Shurugwi Magistrate Tavengwa Sangster facing one count of rape.
The accused person was not asked to plead and remanded in custody to 8 March.
Prosecuting, Pride Gomera told the court that on January 14 the accused person found the complainant alone herding goats in a bush.
a�?The accused person told the complainant to pass through her homestead the following morning while she was going to school.
a�?The complainant went to the complainanta��s homestead the following morning at 6am as instructed by the accused person.
a�?Upon arrival the complainant was given some sadza and milk and after she finished eating, the accused person took the complainant to his bedroom hut,a�? said Gomera.
He said the accused person instructed the complainant to remove her school uniform and underwear.
The court heard that the accused person then ordered the complainant to lie down facing upwards before he raped her.
The matter came to light when the complainanta��s aunt took the complainant to the clinic after she had heard rumors that the complainant was being sexually abused.
a�?The complainant was referred to Shurugwi District hospital where she was medically examined and a medical report was compiled,a�? said Gomera.
