JOHANNESBURG. – Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane will headline the list of local coaches dominating the PSL coaching landscape ahead of the new season.
Zwane has been tasked with taking care of business at Chiefs in his first substantive appointment at this level after a dozen years of grafting within the club’s coaching structures.
He signed a three-year contract but will be expected to end the seven-year trophy drought.
By birth, Kaitano Tembo is Zimbabwean but now holds South African permanent residence and has been in the country for 24 years stretching back to his time as a player.
He will take care of Sekhukhune United as a ‘local’.
Just like Tembo and with over two decades in the country, Maritzburg United’s John Maduka now holds South African permanent residence though he was born in Malawi.
He is also standing as a non-foreigner in his first season at Maritzburg.
European coach Dylan Kerr is still at Swallows FC while Marumo Gallants have brought in Frenchman Romain Folz (32).
At Mamelodi Sundowns, Manqoba Mngqithi, Rulani Mokwena, and Steve Komphela remain in charge for the third year running after consecutive title triumphs.
Eric Tinkler is starting a second season at the helm at Cape Town City after impressing on his way to a second-place finish and CAF Champions League qualification last term.
He is in his second stint with the club.
Gavin Hunt has also returned to SuperSport United for his second spell nine years since he left.
Brandon Truter is starting his first fresh season at AmaZulu after taking over from another local trainer Benni McCarthy in March.
