THE gangs of cyber bullies, who post harmful messages on social media platforms, have been warned that the law will soon catch up with them.

In a public notice, POTRAZ Director General, Dr Gift Machengete, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to safeguarding the safety, privacy, and dignity of individuals within the digital ecosystem. POTRAZ expressed deep concern over the rising cases of cyberbullying in the country.

“Cyberbullying is a malicious act that involves sending or posting harmful, intimidating, or humiliating messages or information on social media platforms, private chats, or digital forums’’, said Dr Machengete

‘’Such conduct is a violation of personal privacy and a serious criminal offense under Section 164B of the criminal law.

‘’Let us work together to build a community where everyone feels safe, valued, and protected.

“POTRAZ urges everyone to desist from cyberbullying, report cyberbullying, and support victims of cyberbullying.

“People are encouraged to report any form of cyberbullying and to contact POTRAZ.

“POTRAZ promises to remain dedicated to creating a safer and more inclusive digital environment.

‘’We will continue to educate, raise awareness and collaborate with stakeholders to conduct cyberbullying and other online harms,” said Dr Machengete.

He said such wild behaviour can lead to a lot of things including, at worst, suicide.

Dr Machengete urged Zimbabweans to embrace a culture of kindness, empathy and mutual respect in their online engagements.
