AAG rolls out empowerment programmes

INDIGENOUS business lobby group, Affirmative Action Group (AAG) is rolling out programmes to empower tertiary students and women in a bid to improve their skills and knowledge on how to run projects and businesses.

AAG chief co-ordinator for tertiary programmes, Mrs Elaine Muchena said the empowerment programmes will be inclusive, relevant and beneficial to all youths.

“Dr Phillip Chiyangwa has recently implemented the AAG Tertiary Chapter for Colleges and Universities.

The empowerment programmes will be inclusive, relevant and beneficial to all youths.

We will offer people-centred service delivery through diverse empowerment initiatives,” said Mrs Muchena.

She said their aim was to help young people and that they remain committed to empowering them as they believe in the power of inspired young people.

In terms of women empowerment, she said AAG was offering free lessons for women online.

Mrs Muchena said the first group of women from Gweru were doing a project management course.

“These short courses are designed to provide people with the targeted training they need to gain the knowledge and abilities necessary to fulfil the specific requirements of their job positions and for having knowledge on how to run your projects or businesses.”

The AAG facilitator of programmes, Mr Philimon Nyirenda said tertiary students were key to developmental change and it was important that they become the protagonists of the present, to ensure that they are active and aware.

“Empowering everyone is the AAG mandate for a better future and without young people, the world would collapse, and yet most of them lack access to basic opportunities to fulfil their potential, and build a better future,” he said.

He said their collective stance will assist them in empowering youth around the world.

One of the women undergoing training in Gweru, Ms Pamela Chirashanye said the programme has assisted them to upgrade skills and acquire more knowledge on how to run businesses.

“We were not realising much profit from our businesses because we were not doing things the proper way.

With the training we have done under the project management course and graduating we are seeing much improvement from how we handle our businesses,” she said.
