AC Milan target Spurs defender

MILAN. – AC Milan have held talks with Tottenham director Fabio Paratici in an attempt to bring defender Japhet Tanganga to the club on a loan deal with an obligation to buy.

The two sides are close to completing a deal for the defender, with Spurs negotiating a buy-back clause should Milan make the move permanent.

Tanganga enjoyed a sustained spell in the side during the early stages of last season, before a serious knee injury ruled him out for the second half of the campaign.

The former England youth international was deployed both centrally, and in the right side of defence, under Antonio Conte, and started both legs of the EFL Cup semi-final against eventual runners-up Chelsea.

After rising through the club’s youth ranks, Tanganga was first entrusted with a place in the first-team during Jose Mourinho’s reign at White Hart Lane.

The prospect’s emergence into the Spurs senior ranks was documented in the Amazon ‘All or Nothing’ series.

Tanganga will look to successes enjoyed by fellow British defender Fikayo Tomori at the San Siro.

After repeatedly struggling to break-through into the Chelsea first team, Tomori joined the Italian giants in January 2021 on a loan deal with an option to buy.

With the deal being made permanent last summer, Tomori established a formidable partnership in the heart of the club’s defence alongside Pierre Kalula, providing the solid foundations that allowed Milan win the Scudetto for the first time in over a decade.

Milan are also said to be targeting 19-year-old Spurs midfielder Pape Matar Sarr, as the Italian club look to bolster their ranks ahead of the upcoming campaign.

The Serie A champions are currently in the midst of a takeover, with RedBird Capital partners having entered into an agreement with Elliot Advisors at the beginning of June.

However, with the deal yet to complete, transfer negotiations have been complicated and top targets such as Sven Botman have been missed out on.  – Mailonline
