SKIES Las Palmas, a local football academy that is on a “Catch them Young” crusade aimed at giving youngsters an opportunity to get scholarships overseas and play in professional leagues at a young age, has unearthed a gem in the form of 14-year-old Mduduzi Dennis Mwene.

Mwene has shown massive talent and earned himself selection in the academy’s Division 2 team.

Skies Las Palmas co-founder Gremah Ndebele said the young midfielder’s maturity and vision has been outstanding.

“His passing and technique is inspiring to other youngsters out there. He can play as a central offensive midfielder or right winger,” said Ndebele.

The Form 1 learner at Milton High School joined the academy in February.

“He was part of the Under-18 squad to play battle of academies 10 toes tournament this year. We are building him for the next academy trials. In the meantime we are trying to work out a scholarship for him,” said Ndebele.

On Saturday, Mwene was in top form when he played his debut in the Division 2 encounter against log leaders Ajax Hotspur which ended 1-1.

“He was a marvel to watch, working his technique fearlessly. He is a motivator to other young boys,” Ndebele said. — @DecoDecent2
