AFCON DREAMS FUEL KANTE’S COMEBACK

CAPS United midfielder Tanaka “Kante” Shandirwa says his good form is being inspired by the ambition to be part of the Warriors squad for the AFCON finals in Morocco in December.

Many had written off the industrious box-to-box midfielder after a series of regrettable decisions which stalled his career last season.

Others questioned his move to join the Green Machine from Dynamos, describing the switch as the end of his career.

However, after 11 rounds of the Castle Lager Premiership fixtures, Shandirwa has rediscovered the spark that saw him receiving rave reviews during his peak period at DeMbare.

He has been CAPS United’s best player so far this season.

In his bid to connect with supporters, Shandirwa has launched a routine end-of-match practice of giving away his jersey to the fans.

The club is deducting money from his salary to cover the replacement costs.

His switch to Makepekepe has turned out to be exactly what the doctor ordered.

He appears to be connecting the dots well for someone who spent the better part of last season being described as a wasted talent.

Shandirwa revealed to Zimpapers Sports that getting into his zone also means that he should inspire his team to beat Dynamos this Sunday.

“I want to thank CAPS United for the love they are showing me, I am human and last season I made a lot of regrettable decisions.

“But to be accepted at this club is not easy, I want to thank them for allowing me to be part of this great family, and I can only thank them by giving away my jersey after every home game because that is the best I can do.

“Our fans should come in numbers on Sunday because it is a game that we want to win, and I’m ready to give my best,” said Shandirwa.

He also spoke about the secret behind his improved performance.

“My dream is to be in the Warriors squad that will travel to Morocco, and it is something that requires extra work.

“I have been working extra hard to be the player who can be considered for selection, and I haven’t reached my best yet, I’m still trying to get to the top of the ladder.

“I have been in the Warriors squad before and I know what is required from the players who get selected. I have to help my team be in a respectable position, that is my main concern at the moment.”
