AFRICAN Sun Hotels continue to scale up their community social responsibility programmes after Holiday Inn Mutare handed over kitchen equipment worth R345 000 to Magamba Vocational Training Institute on Tuesday.
The gesture came at a time when the college was using obsolete kitchen equipment.
The donated equipment includes industrial and conventional ovens, griller and griddle, salamander, dishwasher and gas stoves.
Handing over the equipment, Holiday Inn Mutare general manager, Mr Charlton Chimbira said: “As a hotel and organisation, we have a robust corporate social responsibility programme which seeks to address the various development challenges in our communities.
“The African Sun programme encompasses the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals whose focus is on mobilising efforts to end poverty, and create a life of dignity and opportunity for all by 2030. As an organisation, we believe that we are key drivers of the SDGs, hence our keen interest in this institution.
“It therefore calls for Government, the private sector and other stakeholders to work hand in hand to ensure we achieve the SDGs target. Our organisation works closely with Magamba Vocational Training Institute by offering their students placements for attachment so that they gain the necessary industrial exposure. As such, we believe that we are helping to mould a skilled workforce for the district and the province at large.
“Through this donation and the synergy, we have with this institution, we believe that we are enhancing livelihoods through skills development training of youths, thereby contributing to the SDGs by creating a means to end poverty, zero hunger, quality education, gender equality and decent work and economic growth,” said Mr Chimbira.
The college’s acting provincial centre head, Mr Chisunga said the gesture will go a long way in improving the moulding of competent and skilled personnel in the province and country at large.
