Africom hits back with new Promos

Africom Private limited has yet again launched a promotion dubbed MiVoice in response to Powertel’s current rant as the cheapest voice provider in Zimbabwe. Competition in the CDMA sphere seems to be steaming up with the telecoms company launching three products in a space of two months.

The current offering however is Africom’s best one yet, targeted at acquiring new pay as you go business, home and individual voice customers.

The company’s Managing Director, Rudo Mudavanhu, explained that the new promotion is part of the company’s strategy to meeting the needs of the Zimbabwean market.

She noted that the company has made it its duty to provide the best service and promotions for all its subscribers throughout the country, given the harsh economic climate.

The service provider also launched Super Data last week, a time based data bundle promotion, to supplement its already existing unlimited browsing product.

Africom is indeed creative when it comes to coming up with new promotional products and these are often easily copied by it’s industry rivals.

The inception of its mobile voice network in 2010 saw the introduction of Infinite Voice, a voice calling package that gives you unlimited on-net calling minutes. Last year it successfully introduced MiChoice Data product which comprises of different unlimited browsing packages.

These same products have resurfaced under a variety of names from other competitors big or small.

A timeline of the promotions introduced shows that the telecommunications service provider has been indeed a game changer in the provision of affordable ICT solutions in the telecommunications industry.

However unlike other mobile telecommunication companies, its primary focus has been on the urban areas in each of the provinces including Harare, Bulawayo, Chegutu, Kadoma, Victoria Falls, Kwekwe, Gweru, Rusape, Marondera, Mutare, Masvingo, Kariba and Norton.

It is no secret how exciting the current product range is compared to what is already on the market, and just how this might also stir up competition to the benefit of the average Zimbabwean customer.

As part of its promotional campaign to bring fast and affordable internet to Zimbabweans,Africom has also been rolling out more Wi-Fi spots across the capital in restaurants, recreational parks and in gated communities and is planning to extend it’s Wi-Fi coverage to other towns and cities.

With amazing prices such as $6 for 6 Gigabytes of data for the hotspots downloaded or uploaded at speeds faster that most broadband connections the service provider might be trying to mitigate the threat Zol poses through bringing fibre to homes.

It is also rumoured that the service provider is also working on rolling out 4G communication technology together with LTE in its areas of coverage later on this year with a test already going on in the technology hub of Chinhoyi.

If it launches its new network, Africom will become the second telecommunications provider to roll out LTE after Econet Wireless, and this might spearhead other players to follow through and challenge Econet to lower its data tariffs over the same connection.

It may seem that the telecommunications providers is responding to a tougher economic climate just like every other service provider that is competing for subscribers.

The competitive prices for the Africom MiVoice package will likely be a very strong offer for subscribers keen on low cost calling and that have established that Africom service is readily available in their areas.
