The annual Africa International Film Festival which runs from November 10-17 in Calabar, Cross River State in Nigeria, will afford stakeholders in film and entertainment from around the world the platform to interact.
Festival director Chima Ude said this year’s edition would be bigger and better.
“There will be a series of red carpet premières, screenings of a diverse array of movies from around the world, networking events, scenic excursions, discussion panels exploring new ideas in film industry,” he said.
AFRIFF is an annual showcase of the African cinema industry, with a vision to raise global awareness for vast potential that the industry holds and its impact on the continent’s economy as well as provide a bridge for collaborations with international counterparts and develop the sector.
Attendance will include local and international filmmakers, actors, directors, film buyers, distributors, visual artists, film students, enthusiasts, equipment manufacturers and celebrities among them Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade-Ekehinde and Rita Dominic.
“AFRIFF’s vision is to raise awareness about African cinema, its potential and the tremendous socio-economic impact it has on African economies.
“The festival establishes a bridge for partnership with international counterparts to grow the quality, expertise, global standards and commercial value of our local industries,” said Ude.
Now in its third year, the festival has played host to some of international celebrities such Lynn Whitfield, Tchina Arnold, Rockmond Dunbar, Malcom Jamal-Warner, Giancarlo Esposito, Eriq Ebounaey, Adnan Siddiqui among others.
“The deals inherent in AFRIFF will help promote Africa’s significance as birth home of civilisation and indeed the last frontier for unique film stories and content.
“The vision is to reflect a common true African identity and re-establish Africa as an original home to all, connecting people from around the world and finding the common ground,” he said.
