THE much-awaited Afro-fusion night will roar into life tonight (Friday) with three Mutare-based artistes clashing in a potentially explosive show slated for popular arts and entertainment centre Courtauld Theatre. Afro-jazz sensation and Africa University student Rudo Chasi will perform as the main act while Afro-pop artiste Micah Terah and Hip Hop singer Kritic Igwee will perform as supporting acts. The event is co-organised by Africa University Student Representive Committee and Rudo Chasi.
In an interview, Chasi said the show was aimed at bringing together music fans across all genres on one platform while popularising jazz music.
“It is going to be a perfect opportunity for the three of us to showcase our talents in front of our own. Preparations for the Afro fusion night are at an advanced stage and we would like to urge our fans to come in numbers and feel three genres on one platform,” said Rudo who hopes to establish herself into an internationally acclaimed musician whose music appeals to all age groups.
The 27-year-old musician was inspired by renowned world class divas Shirley Caesar, Cece Winans, Whitney Houston, Chiwoniso Maraire, Brenda Fassie and grand dad of Zim music Oliver “Samanyanga” Mtukudzi.
She released her debut album titled African Sun last year and she has never looked back. The six-track album carries fine tracks such as Rova ngoma, Destiny, Ndini here, Benzi and Woda sei.
In her songs, she focuses on issues such as unity, love, betrayal and gender issues.
She mooted her music career in 2012 when she started performing publicly at the Sister’s Open Mic Platform a Pamberi Trust project in 2012 in Harare.
The talented singer actively participated in the 2014 Zimbabwe Fashion Weekend while exhibiting the Yanai Fashion Brand, the Afro kink, Curls and Fashion Expo as well as the UN International Albinism Day.
