Airzim ups UK flight frequency

Air Zimbabwe will in April increase from two to three times per week flights from Harare to London to maximise earnings from the route.
Currently, the national airliner flies the route twice a week.
Air Zimbabwe acting chief executive Mr Innocent Mavhunga said the new schedule would start on April 26.
“As from April we will start flying to London three times per week,” he said.
The Harare-London route has been Air Zimbabwe’s cash cow with fares ranging between
US$1 300 and US$2 100 for the economy class and business class respectively. Air Zimbabwe generates close to US$300 000 on each flight to London.
About US$750 million in fresh investment capital is required to revive Air Zimbabwe, which is currently beset by a huge debt overhang and ageing fleet.
Last year, pilots of the cash-strapped airline went on an industrial action over unpaid salaries amounting to US$3 million which resulted in suspension of regional and international flights. A number of creditors, mostly from Europe, have threatened to attach the airline’s assets.
Air Zimbabwe, which is among the first 10 parastatals the Government has earmarked for restructuring, has also failed to meet standards of International Air Travel Agency which govern players in the sector. – New Ziana.
