All roads, today, lead to Rusununguko Clinic under Chief Tshovani in Chiredzi East where President Mnangagwa is headlining the National Culture Month launch celebrations that are expected to be witnessed by over 20 000 people from all corners of Zimbabwe.
There is excitement in Chiredzi East ahead of the historic launch by the President who is going to lead the nation in celebrating its rich cultural heritage and diversity. The event also marks another milestone by the Second Republic to ensure inclusivity in line with the “leaving no one and no place behind” mantra.
This year, the launch will take place in an area predominated by the ethnic Shangaan people who will also have an opportunity to showcase their rich culture and tradition to the outside world.
The President’s visit to Chiredzi East has also elicited huge excitement among the locals owing to developmental dividends that will accrue to the area.
Permanent Secretary for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Dr Addmore Pazvakavambwa yesterday said the province in general and Chiredzi District in particular was ready to welcome the President for the launch that will mark the climax of celebrations being held under the theme, “Celebrating Indigenous Voices.’’
Dr Pazvakavambwa said the province was honoured to host the launch adding that the President’s attendance will put the icing on the cake.
“We have finished our preparations for the launch of the National Culture Month at Rusunguko Clinic in Chiredzi East by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe Cde Dr ED Mnangagwa. Masvingo Province is excited with the launch of this important function specifically in Chiredzi District where the Shangaan culture is quite distinct and significant in so many ways,’’ said Dr Pazvakavambwa.
“We are excited for so many reasons, we are playing host to the whole country, and representatives of the whole country’s cultural set-ups will be here (in Chiredzi) showcasing their different cultures, showing that in our diversity we are united as a nation under the theme, ‘Celebrating Indigenous Voices’.’
In the past week, the anticipated bumper crowd of over 20 000 people was already stimulating frenzied excitement ahead of the launch especially because of the potential socio-economic spin-offs for Chiredzi District.
“In a way, because we are playing host to the launch, all different cultures be it Karanga, Shangaan and others will be on display here and that in itself is quite a big honour for us as a province,’’ said Dr Pazvakavambwa.
He added that with around 30 village business units (VBUs) currently being established in Chiredzi, thanks to the President’s visit, Chiredzi District would never be the same again.
