CHIPINGE District will tomorrow (Saturday) join the rest of the nation in celebrating Zimbabwe’s 35 years of self rule which runs under the theme: Zimbabwe @35: Consolidating Unity, Peace and Economic Sovereignty.
The District Administrator, Mr Edgars Seenza, is expected to read the speech on behalf of His Excellency President Mugabe at Chipinge’s Gaza Stadium where the main events are taking place.
Mr Seenza said preparations for the celebrations were at an advanced stage and urged all people from all walks of life to attend the historic event. He said they were expecting a delegation from Mozambique to grace the celebrations.
“We are pleased with progress made so far in preparing for the Independence Day celebrations.
“Government would like to thank individuals, local companies, the business community and other stakeholders for their support in making the event a success. We want to extend an invitation to everyone regardless of political affiliation to attend this historic day,” said Mr Seenza. A lot of activities are lined up for the celebrations.
Entertainment committee head Mr Andrew Murairwa said entertainment would include soccer, music performances and traditional dances.
“Local artistes such as Cde Simoyi, Bety Zhombe and dancehall artiste Trez D are expected to woo those who will be in attendance at Gaza Stadium. We have also invited many traditional groups to entertain people on this day. We are also glad to announce that some of Chipinge’s traditional groups will perform at the provincial Independence Day celebrations in Mutare,” he said.
